Barry moved to Orange after retiring from Fairfax County’s Department of Family Services where he was supervisor for Adult Protective Services. Originally from Louisiana, he grew up within a musical family where singing was valued and encouraged. He gives credit to good genes from Mom (church pianist and Opera lover), an ability to listen and learn from better singers /directors and willingness always become better. Most of his adult experience has been in community and church choirs.

Grace has over 20 years' experience teaching music and doing music therapy in a variety of settings. She directed a community chorus for five years and was a church music director for five years before entering seminary in 1986. She is an Episcopal priest, serving as an interim at Grace Church in Stanardsville. Currently Grace sings in the Virginia Consort Festival Chorus and directs the Greene County Singers. In her "spare time," she is a member of Virginia Master Naturalists.
George is a retired process chemist with no formal musical training – however, he has been singing in church choirs for over 30 years. He worked as an engineer for Univac, GE, and Siemens, guiding circuit board manufacture. George joined Bel Canto in 2012. He also currently sings with the Madison Choral Society and Madison Presbyterian Choir. In addition to choral music, George enjoys classical and jazz.
Judy studied vocal performance privately in Valdosta, Georgia, and has performed professionally for over 25 years. She has been a frequent guest soloist with the Madison Choral Society and was a member and soloist with the Montpelier Singers. She is a founding member of and soloist with Bel Canto. Judy and her husband, Ken, live on their horse farm in Madison County.
Geoff joined Bel Canto in 2015. His love of music stems from childhood when his classical music buff dad started him on the piano. At Princeton, he sang with the Glee Club and Chapel Choir. At the World Bank, he performed for many years with a madrigal group. Now retired, Geoff lives in Rappahannock County with his wife and two cats. He has been a mentor and master gardener, sings with the UU Blue Ridge singers, does sound effects for community theater, and plays guitar, banjo, and harmonica.
Brad, an Episcopal priest, joined Bel Canto in 2010. Brad has an extensive background in choral music, having earned a bachelor of music degree in voice and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in choral music education. In addition to singing with Bel Canto, Brad is a member of the Madison Choral Society.
Jaynie, a former account executive with an insurance company, joined Bel Canto in 2012. Jaynie, a proud mother of two adult children, is a longtime board member of the Literacy Council of Madison County where she directs the family literacy program. In addition to Bel Canto, she is also a member of the Madison Choral Society.
Fred has sung in many choral groups in the many places he’s lived, locally with the Richmond Symphony Chorus and the Oratorio Society. His three children, their spouses, and six grandchildren are very musical and they especially enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday when they sing and play together when not eating or playing games.
Ginny, a financial planner by day, enjoys two passions by night: singing and crochet. Her love for both is only rivaled by the love she has for her two dogs, Eva and June. Ginny joined Bel Canto in 2013 and also sings at her church in Culpeper, Virginia.
Born in SW Virginia, Howard began singing in his church choir in high school. He sang and played in the bell choir throughout high school and college until he moved to Arizona as a mechanical engineer working on helicopters. Howard returned to VA as lead engineer on Stall Warning systems and Angle of Attack sensors for jet aircraft. Howard has sung with the Greene County singers for the past 15 years and currently works for PAD A CHEEK helping people with sleep apnea sleep more comfortably.
Sallie lives in Washington, VA and works in Warrenton as Executive Director of the Mental Health Association of Fauquier County. Prior to singing with Bel Canto, she was a member of the Montpelier Singers. Sallie is a graduate of the College of William & Mary, where she sang and toured with the W&M Choir, and holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina. Sallie is a very active member of the Rappahannock Association for Arts and the Community, where she serves on the Board.
Fourteen-year-old Bert was ordered by Mom to join her church choir with a stern, "You're going to like it!" Along with loving choir ever since, he has sung with the Annapolis Chorale and Chamber Chorus, Naval Academy Chapel Chorale and Cantor, Virginia Oratorio Society, and currently sings with the Greene County Singers, Madison Choral Society, and Bel Canto. Bert has no formal voice training but appreciates the years of guidance from many accomplished choral directors.
Mary has lived in the same house in Rappahannock County for 37 years and has been a member of a choral group for most of her adult life. She was a member of the Montpelier Singers and is a founding member of Bel Canto. A graduate of Duke University with master’s degrees from Catholic University and Virginia Commonwealth University, Mary is a psychotherapist in private practice in Culpeper as well as a yoga teacher and therapist.
Joe Parker is a teacher/farmer and lover of music who lives in Madison County with his wonderful wife of 35 years. Father of two grown children, Joe has been singing in choirs and choral groups for the last 12 years and studied music under Katherine Parker-Jones, his daughter.
Ginny, a retired nurse, has been singing as long as she can remember. In FL, she sang with the Clearwater Community Chorus and played handbells under the direction of Arthur Goetz. She joined the Madison Choral Society in 1988 and Bel Canto in 2018. Ginny remarried in 2018 after the 2016 loss of her husband, Paul. Ginny and her husband Bob enjoy traveling, reading, attending musical programs, and spending time with grandchildren. She is a member of FT Baptist Church where she serves as organist.
Cathy ter Weele received her Bachelor of Music Education from Shenandoah Conservatory. She has been teaching music for 13 years and is currently the music teacher at Emerald Hill Elementary in Culpeper, VA. After singing with chorales in Washington D.C, Blacksburg, Warrenton, and Culpeper, Cathy is happy to be singing with Bel Canto in the mountains of Madison!
Zan’s love affair with singing began as a child at the knee of her grandmother, a church organist and pianist. She later attended The Potomac School, and was introduced to a wide variety of music under the direction of Jack Langstaff, founder of The Christmas Revels. It was while there that Zan performed in the U.S. premiere of Benjamin Britten’s "Noyes Fludde!" In addition to Bel Canto, of which she is a founding member, Zan currently sings with her church choir and the Madison Choral Society.
Fay is a graduate of James Madison University and has taught private piano lessons and vocal and instrumental music in public schools. Fay has served as a church organist and accompanied several area choral groups, including the Madison Choral Society, for which she is the present accompanist. Fay serves on the Madison Co. Planning Commission and also volunteers with several nonprofits in the area, including Hospice of the Rapidan, Literacy Council of Madison Co., and Friends of the Library.
Bernice suffered through the usual piano lessons as a child, but fell in love with the pipe organ as she got older. Even though she took organ lessons in college, she soon realized that keyboard wasn’t in her future. Having enjoyed choral activities in high school, Bernice began singing with her church choir. She later joined the Madison Choral Society, and Bel Canto. In addition to music, Bernice enjoys gardening, photography, her grandchildren, her dogs, and her church.
